Welcome to the AWSP Blog

Well as you can clearly see, because here you are reading it, we've launched a blog at AWSP. And no, not everything will be written in the style of Dr. Suess (we save that for special occasions only). Our motivation behind the blog's launch is the same as our motivation for everything we do here: provide better support for our members. Here's the communications section of the 2013-16 AWSP Strategic Plan:
AWSP will serve as a primary source of information to support members' work in the principalship.

Areas of Focus

  • Enhance member awareness of AWSP benefits, services, and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide a variety of communication platforms for members to connect with one another and share ideas, information, and best practices.
  • Ensure the AWSP website is the preferred online professional resource for members.
  • Facilitate business partnerships to expand and enhance opportunities for members.

Our hope is the blog will serve each of those purposes by posting timely, relevant, and informative content. Think of us as your one-stop shop for principal news, resources, and ideas, whether you're looking for updates about education policy, resources that can help you with your job, or even funny videos you can use to make a staff meeting more entertaining. Use the tags to search and sort the blog, which will treat the content like an indexed resource library. We'll be tagging items to the AWSP Leadership Framework criteria when applicable, like we do on our @AWSP_Principals Twitter account (for example, #AWSPLF1 is the hashtag on Twitter for tweets related to Creating a Culture).

Over the next few weeks, we'll be posting content about how best to follow along and stay apprised of the latest news. The newly-launched blog is just one part of our new communications strategy for the next school year. We've redesigned our newsletters to be "responsive," allowing the layout to adapt to the size of your desktop or mobile screen. Based on member feedback and research, our redesign will make the newsletters easier to read and link back to longer stories and blog posts. Many of you saw some of the videos we produced last year, and based on strong member feedback, we'll keep creating videos to inform and hopefully entertain. These are just two of the areas we've been working on this summer; we'll have much more to share in the coming months. Stay tuned! In the meantime, have a great start to your school year.
